As the season nears, there are many staple pieces that come with farmhouse style decor. Vintage amber bottles are one of those pieces. As popularity grew for them so did the price tag. These amber bottles are becoming harder to track down than they use to be. They are prefect for the fall season with their dark tones and even when you just want to bring depth into a space.
Since collecting them has been more difficult, I though why not make vintage inspired amber bottles. Here is the how to making store bought bottles look jus the same and blend right in with the true vintage ones for less than $25! Sometimes when you can not find something you just have to make it.
Supplies You Will Need:
Mod Podge
Glass Bottles ( I found mine at Hobby Lobby)
Food Coloring (yellow, red, orange, green, and blue)
Measuring Spoons
Glass Bowl and Spoon
2 Pans
Wax Paper
Aluminum Foil or Newspaper
Paper Towels
How to Make:
Take you glass bottles and make sure they are clean.
In a glass bowl measure out your Mod Podge. I used 4 Tbl because I was making 5 amber bottles of difference sizes.
One you have your Mod Podge in your bowl, take the yellow and orange food coloring and put 15 drops of each color into the bowl and stir.
Once you have those colors stirred up add 6 drops of green and blue food coloring and stir around. Adding those colors in should make your mixture turn brownish. If it is not dark enough slowly add more of each color in.
Once your mixture is brown, slowly add 6-10 drops of red food coloring in. Once you do this you should get a redish brown color. If you do not see that slowly add more yellow, orange, and red in. I just kept mixing until I liked the color of the mixture. There is no wrong color once you get your mixture redish brown.
Now take one of your pans and put the Aluminum Foil or Newspaper onto of it. This will be where you put your bottles to drain the extra Mod Podge.
Start filling your bottles one at a time with Mod Podge, slowly rolling it around the bottle to cover the entire inside with the mixture. Once you have the inside covered , place the bottle upside down onto the pan to drain. Repeat this with all of your bottles.
Let these bottles drain for about two hours.
Once they are done draining, preheat your oven to 225F
Take the other pan and put wax paper on it.
Place the bottles upright on the pan and place in the oven for 45mins.
After 45 mins turn the oven off and leave the bottles inside to cool down slowly.
Once cooled down, you are ready to style your bottles!
I hope this helps create those Amber Bottles that are farmhouse style staple pieces! I would love to see your bottles if you make them and how you style them in your home for the fall season or even just anytime you want to add a dark tone in.
