A She shed that is a Plain Jane? I have the perfect fix for you, less than $5o DIY flower boxes! Sometimes when windows look bare and sad, dress them up with some colorful flowers paired with wood tones! Now let’s grab some scrap wood or some new whichever you have and get these made!
First, you will need to measure your windows and decide on what size you want your flower boxes.
My personal flower box size: 28inL x 10inW x 8in H
I used wood that I had laying around so my wood is a little different than if you were going to buy new wood. I am going to share the list below of what wood I would buy if I was building these with new wood. Also, you can choose to add a little framing around the edges to create dimension. This was also made out of what I had laying around in the garage.
What you need to buy if starting from scratch:
I started by building the main box by cutting 4 pieces of wood to a length of 28 inches. These pieces of wood will be the front and back of two boxes. Once those are cut, now it is time to cut 4 more at 10 inches. These will be the sides of each box.
Attach all the pieces together with wood screws. You can see just how in this tutorial video here. Once you have your box built you can choose to add the framing or not but, I loved the look it gave the boxes. I attached all the framing with my nail gun but, if you do not have a nail gun you can use wood glue.
Once you are happy with the look of your flower boxes, it is time to stain them! I chose to use Minwax in the shade of Provincial and then sealed it with an all-weather sealant. Now it is time to put those boxes up and fill them full of colorful flowers!
Now it is time to use your own spin, you can either attach the flower boxes directly to your shed or you can use corbels or shelf brackets. I had these left over from when I took the second row of my open shelving down in the kitchen.
I drilled a few holes in the bottom of the flower boxes and attached them to the brackets to give them a little more farmhouse look to the shed.
All that is left is to fill those boxes full of your favorite flowers so that you can enjoy watching Bloom! A simple way to give that shed a little joy that keeps growing!
