Operation Surprise, a new campaign from The Home Depot Foundation, is one of my favorite programs that I have ever worked on that supports and gives back to veterans. This post is sponsored by The Home Depot. The Home Depot Foundation is a non-profit organization that gives back to those who have given so much for this country. This past month I was lucky enough to be apart of their newest foundation that will be giving up to 25,000 to a deserving veteran for home renovations and repairs. Can you believe that? Many of you love to help our military veterans out but do not know how to go about that but, guess what? This time you can be apart of this amazing campaign!
When The Home Depot Foundation asked me to come down to Atlanta to help bring attention to the launch of this campaign, I was so honored but even more excited to give back to a meaningful cause that is very dear to my heart. I am a military spouse and I have seen first hand how veterans get out of the military and sometimes there is no one there to help them and they find themselves at the very bottom. This truly breaks my heart to think that people who gave so much to this country can not even get the housing and the support they need. Well, thanks to The Home Depot Foundation, they truly are able to get help to have the homes they deserve. I want to share how The Home Depot Foundation is there for the veterans of this amazing country. During the launch of Operation Surprise The Home Depot Foundation chose a street that two veterans are currently living on in Atlanta, GA and gave seven homes a remodel.
These seven homeowners partnered with nonprofits and were approved for grants to help fix up their homes. The home owners each were able to choose what they were wanting to change about their homes, from the color of the outside or even adding a deck to the side of their home. Little did I know that when they asked me to come down and spread the word about Operation Surprise, I was also going to be able to get my hands dirty and be apart of the team on a house they were working on. This for me was such an amazing opportunity because as a home decor blogger influencer, I always Love a good DIY. Being able to truly hop in like the many team members of the HomeDepot stores and corporate did truly made me feel like one of the team members.
As we came to a wrap that day and just standing there and seeing what that many people could get done in just a short four hours was absolutely amazing! The best part for me though was seeing the smiles on the faces of the home owners as they saw the changes happening before their eyes. I had a chance to sit down and speak with some of the home owners and to hear their stories on where they started and what they were excited about with all of the changes just made it even more personal and meaningful. The fact that The Home Depot Foundation can make such a huge difference in someone’s life in just a few short hours is what this foundation is about. They truly put their best foot forward and give the best to their community. As the day wrapped up The Home Depot Foundation surprised the two veterans that live on this street with some amazing gifts to go with their newly remodeled homes to really give the kick to the launch of Operation Surprise. To be there to see the looks on their faces is something that I never will forget.
