We finally have lockers! For the past six months, I have been on the search for a set of vintage lockers. Finally one of my friends spotted a set on Facebook Marketplace. I was so excited that I could hard wait to pick them up. When I went to pick them up the lady has two sets, one for my friend and one for myself. She had listed them for $40 and I was so shocked to find out that was for both sets. $20 a pieces that is the biggest vintage score with the best price, I have ever found. The best part is, that they were in really good condition.
Once I got them home, I was ready to get started on them! The first step I took was to make sure I wiped them down with Clorox wipes because they were dirty from being in a storage building. After I wiped them down good, I took off the locker numbers that the previous owners had painted over. I removed these because I wanted to add some new vintage brass locker tags. Once those were removed it was time to get started painting. The lockers were perviously painted many colors of semi-gloss paint and had many brush strokes in them. Since this was the condition of the lockers, I chose to use Rust-Oleum Chalk Paint in Linen White because with this paint it will stick to any surface and normally only takes one coat of paint.
The first step that I alway take when using chalk paint to paint a piece, is to get the places that I have to use a brush on finished first. When using chalk paint, I do use a brush only because I feel that it does not leave brush strokes. The only thing I have found out about using a brush with chalk paint is that it may take more than one or two coats just in that spot. Once I have everything painted with the brush that needs to be that is when I start using a roller. Using a roller does cover more space in time and takes less coats of the chalk paint. Personally I wish I would have used my paint sprayer on these because of all of the little nooks and crannies but, it was raining outside and I could not wait to get started on these. If you do not have a paint sprayer you can use the steps above to get them painted.
My favorite thing about chalk paint though, is the fact that it dries in a short time and you can get two coats on a piece within a few hours. This makes for a simple and time efficient project. On this particular set of lockers I did decide to leave the inside the pale sage green for a little dimension. Although I did leave the inside green, I did paint the inside of the door and the door jam. This was because I plan on leaving one of the doors open for a fun decor statement and I felt like it wood mesh better with having that part painted.
These lockers took around about 6 hours to have full complete because I did let them dry a little longer than normal due to the cold weather outside and I was in the garage painting them. Applying a new coat of paint to anything can make a huge change to a piece. Plus this is project that only requires a brush, roller, and paint. Anyone that wants to try can do this my friends! Now its time to go style! Thank you for stopping by the blog today and everyday, I truly appreciate all of your support! XOXO
