Oh my planters are a must have for the spring and summer seasons! Although I love a good cement planter, why not try a simple DIY cement look alike planter this time? Sometimes finding a good farmhouse cement comes with its down falls as in it is…heavy and expensive! This year I decided that I would see what simple and affordable planters I could find and give them a makeover.
I found these plastic planters one day while out shopping and I loved that they looked almost cement but the color was off. What do you do when the color is off…you plant it especially if the piece is under $10! I went inside and picked up three cans of textured sandstone spray paint. I loved that the look was not too dark but, just enough to pass as a cement color. You can choose any color you want as long as it is for plastic.
Since the planter snapped together I look off the top part and layered it side by side and began spray painting. I did three thin coats of the paint since it was textured I did not want to put too much on at once and cause it to run. I did wait 30 minutes in between coats. The timing between will depend on your weather that day. I did a touch test, always my go too lol sometimes it does not turn out good. I just tapped the planter and no paint stuck to my finger and I put another coat on.
Once I finished all three coats, I let them dry for a good three hours. When they were dry, they were ready to go on the back porch! These two planters and the paint were a total less than $40, which is the cost of just one cement planter normally. These are the fun simple DIY projects that I love to create and share with you friends! I hope that you are able to use this to create some of your very own!
